Welcome to the Stock Dogging website! My name is Don Sutton and I’m here to help your dog become the best listener and herder you’ve ever seen. While there are certain breeds of dogs that instinctively work better as a herding partner, any canine has the ability to learn. My business is based out of Caldwell, Idaho, fit for the hardworking individual. With so many farmers and cattle ranchers out here, I wanted to provide a service that would maximize efficiency and speed with the use of a dog. Growing up on a ranch myself, I was put in charge of moving our cattle from one pasture to another from a very early age. At the time, the only dog I had was Molly, our lively beagle. I began training her in the ways of herding, teaching her whistle commands and proper rounding. It was a lot of work but eventually it paid off as she turned out to be the best partner I’d ever had.
Stock Dogging is looking to help other ranchers with their companions and created this website in order to reach a wider audience. That’s not all we do though. Our private lessons are for everyday families wanting to refine their pets listening skills, as well as, teaching them new commands. Obedience is key, especially in an animal you intend to work with.
What We Offer
By signing up, you’ll be immersed in a hands on, fully guided twelve week course. Sounds like a lot but really, three months just barely cuts it. We have three levels, each level giving more detailed training and all span over twelve weeks. We understand that the three levels isn’t for everyone. Most folks looking to train their dog in obedience simply go through the first course and be done with it and that’s totally okay! The other two remaining levels are meant for ranchers with puppies or those new to the lifestyle of herding. You’ll be able to work directly with my own cattle and sheep, learning the whistles and calls yourself. You can’t truly learn just by watching, you have to do it to fully grasp the concept.
If you’re ready to make a herding pro out of your dog or are tired of struggling with a stubborn pup, I encourage you to Email Me. While I’d love for you to sign up right away, I’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have about everything that we do here. Looking forward to it!
